Along the Route 160 For me this route is mainly the "wiser way of driving" from Silicon Valley to Sacramento. The places seen along the route leave mixed feelings. It is a mix of neglect, unbelievable poverty with some elements of historic preservation, low key tourism and some curio, gift and art shops associated with it. Good places to stop are Freeport, Isleton and Walnut Grove. When you leave route 160 and drive along the opposite side of the river, you might also consider to stop in Locke. Most of these places make commonly a very deserted impression, with none or barely some other visitors roaming the streets. One step off the main strip is enough to be confronted with piles of garbage, dereliction and poverty. |
