For pilots it is always a sad view when one of airfields is rendered
unusable: On Feb. 21 and 22, 2005 Santa Clara River washed out substantial
amount of land and damaged the runway:
FAA issued to Santa Paula airport a "special-use airport permit." what allows at least local pilots to use the airport. Airport's official web page used to be: http://www.santapaulaairport.com/ , it is however not always really "operational." Images below come from a better time. 1999 I flew to Santa Paula without really knowing that on this day airport hosts a fantastic event: A Bücker-Jungmann biplane fly-in. The event was very impressive. We saw numerous old aircraft of WWII and WWI, numerous takeoff and a few aerobatics aircraft as well. Restaurant on field serves splendid food. 19.Jun.1999, SZP (Santa Paula), this was not a good day for aerial photography. Haze, poor visibility, amplified by milky windows of my Arrow and some bad vignetting caused by the polarization filter. Only the images on ground look nice. |
