The special needs girls really did impact my life during this trip, they were sweet, kind, and always ready to play with you. While we were there, we played a game with a parachute and a ball. I loved to play this with them because this simple little game put a huge beautiful smile on their faces. After we played, we took a little break and I had sat down and showed my dad a picture I had taken. They were so interested in my pictures of my brother, my dog, and some that I had taken with them. They were so into the pictures that John took some of us together on his camera and couple minutes after, he came back with printed pictures for all of us. The girls were in shock that they could keep the pictures for themselves and they had the biggest, most prettiest smiles on there face. These girls were amazed by such little things and thats what really touched my heart. I felt that I could really connect with them because I have a brother with special needs and I’m so used to being around him that I really understood what they are going through. Even though we came here to minister to them, they honestly ministered to me.

Estar en la carcel pone tu vida inmediatamente en perspectiva porque luego de la muerte, perdida de un ser querido o una grave enfermedad, es el peor estado en que un ser humano puede encontrarse. A pesar de eso pude ver esperanza, pude ver gente libre, pude ver personas deseosas de una nueva oportunidad.

Esta ha sido una experiencia donde lo único que puedo es darle gracias a Dios por el gran privilegio de poder traer esperanza y poder traer el mensaje que esas personas estaban esperando. En un mundo donde las personas dan por sentado la libertad que tienen, estos presos tuvieron la libertad de recibir a Jesus en su corazones y recibir una nueva vida.

As we headed to the prison in Comayagua I had no idea what to expect. I just knew that the Lord was going with us so I had no fear. As we went through security and walked in, all eyes were on us. In an environment like that, it’s hard not to stereotype. Almost everyone looked like bad news. The prisoners stared at us with mixed intentions. Some were excited to see us and wanted to know what we had to offer. Others eyed us down like we were about to be their next kill. After a 2 minute walk through the prison halls, we settled in a courtyard to host a service. The prisoners heard the commotion and gathered to see what was going on. Before we knew it, the service was packed with people! To my surprise, there were several Christians who already knew and loved the Lord. But there were also many people who did not know Christ and were very far from Him. Wilmer Majiamartinez, the pastor of the prison, opened up the service with a very direct, in-your-face and powerful call to repentance. Then worship began and everyone had their arms raised, crying out to the Lord. Cristian Castillo followed worship with a word that touched many of the prisoner’s hearts. The service closed with an alter call for salvation and a call for the sick. Pastor Cristian, Pastor Leo, Pastor Rigo, Eddie, Chris, Sito, John and I then gathered around the many prisoners that went up and we prayed alongside them, believing for a miracle. It was amazing to speak to some of these prisoners and hear their stories. And it was amazing to know that the ones who believe are no longer captives. They truly live a life of freedom inside their prison thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ.
