JOHN PARRA, NLM AND HANDS OF GOD AT MISSION OF HOPE IN HAITI DAY1

WOW!!!!! Day 1 in the books. I'll give you quick recap. This morning at the airport Miami went very smoothly. We were way over in bags and weight but the lady behind the counter was a God send. She let everything go and we didn't have to pay extra. The Plane ride over was great. It was about 1hr 45 mn to get here. We were expecting the airport in Haiti to be total chaos because we had 98 checked bags and about 70 carry-on's. As we cleared customs and moved toward the baggage claim, thebags began to come out on the conveyor belt and our team sprung into action. We were able to get everything accomplished as planed. We located some help and to the bus we went. The bus ride over was very sad. Seeing all the destruction and devastation left by the earthquake really rattles you to the core. The tent cites are endless....as far as the eye can see. I cant imagine how it is there during the night. These tents are home to these people. We passed by this one tent were I saw like 7-8 people inside with cloth hanging and pots and pans.... we are a blessed people in every sense of the word. The bus driver made one stop along the way to camp. He pulled over and pointed to a dirt road that let to some foot hills. There was people walking to and from the area. He explained to us that where that cross lay in the distance was the mass grave were thousands had been laid to rest. When he said that the whole bus went silent. The thought of having to visit a friend or family member at a mass grave is beyond anything I am capable of comprehending. When we arrived at MOH we were taken to our sleeping quarters to drop off our bags. From there lunch and then a tour of MOH. All I can tell you is that God is everywhere in this place. From east to west and from north to south.....EVERYWHERE! What this place stands for is what God wants from his people. MOH provides 60,000 meals a day for the Haitian people. They have 1250 students that attend school here and are adding 1000 more for the next school year. They have full fledged operating facility and hospital. They also have a prothetic lab were they are making artificial limbs for those people, mostly children, who lost a limb in the earthquake. They have a 2 chair dental clinic. They also have an orphanage where they provide for 62 children. The kids are great. Most of them know english so its easier to communicate with them. Matthew is a little boy that is about 1 1/2 years old. He's the one in the picture with me. I know that he is blessed to be at MOH but I cant help but notice the conditions in which he and all the children are living. I breaks your heart. After shower and dinner. We ended off the night with a devotional led by Chris Pachardo. It's hot and sticky here. We are all tired. My son Cris is in the hospital in Miami. Pastor and Berta couldn't make the trip... but through all this we are so blessed to be here to do his work. God bless you guys. By. Alex Trujillo
