The people here follow an animalistic version version of Buddhism. They fear spirits and ghosts and you will often see one of these devices above doorways. A straw frame carries a sheep's(?) skull, broken arrows, picture cards and webs. The webs are to catch the evil spirits so that they cannot enter the home. At one village we were given black marks on our noses, made from fire ashes, to protect us from ghosts!
