This is a view looking north along the N-S dyke towards Ship Rock, New Mexico. We were a little late for the light and it had been quite overcast earlier in the day. However, we enjoyed a shortish hike almost up to the rock and back. Ship Rock is pretty impressive rising to over 1500 ft above the desert but we were more impressed by the dyke. The earth's surface appeared to have split for over a mile in length and this thin wall of lava forced upwards.
