#009 Little Pony

We went for a walk along the River Almond at Cramond today, which was extremely heavy in spate. Along the way there is a field where these miniature Shetland Ponies are kept.

Yes, Edinburgh is a great place but also a fair distance from you. We have family (on my wife side) in Virginia and Florida, so we have visited your country (albeit the opposite coast.) My daughter, who is only 5 has ambitions to be a wildlife vet in Africa, I'm kind of in two minds about it, very far away, dangerous and not very commercial, but great for photo opportunities when I visit ! Hopefully she'll settle for pets and ponies closer to home, a while to go yet though. You should come and visit some time, I'm sure you would love our lovely city.

Thanks John! Learn something new everyday. I did find it in the American Heritage dictionary also (alt. spelling spait) referring to a sudden excess or outpouring. Just not a term I've heard applied to rivers before. BTW, I see you left a comment on my goodbye image - she (my daughter) very nearly applied to art school in Edinburgh! Although I'm sure it is a wonderful place, Boston is already far enough. (we live in California). Would love to visit though. :) Cindy

Cyndyd, spate = in flood (in UK anyway, or is it just a Scottish term ?), thanks for commenting. I didn't post any pictures as the river was muddy brown and not very attractive. Will put one up in places gallery for you to see
