Sharky the red tailed hawk

Sunday morning Sept 27, 2009 got this call about a red tail hanging from a pole. This is the last thing a rehabber wants to hear on a Sunday, or ever. Some quick phone calls to a lot of people finds Great Lakes Line Builder, Jim Schroder working on a Sunday, lucky bird. It was a 30 minute drive to the area where the immature hawk was swinging in the high winds dangling from one foot. The first person on the scene was Les Billman also from Great Lakes Line Builders. I could not convince him to climb the pole alone to get the hawk down. We waited for Sharky, Jim Schroeder to come in the bucket truck. Now the hawk was hanging some three hours that we are aware of. It was horrible to watch it blowing in the wind for that amount of time, but permission had to be given to access the pole to get it down first. All in all it turned out for the best and the photos below show you how a few caring people can make a difference.
