American white Pelican banding

This colony of American White pelicans is located on Lake Butte des Morts. We have been given permission by the Butte des Morts Conservation Club to access the islands.
The first banding day was May 31, 2008. This is an ongoing project.

We checked on the islands on June 14,2008 because of all the heavy rains the past weeks. We did not access any of the islands for fear of making the problem worse. There is a great sadness on all of the islands. Many young and adults birds did not survive.

The June 14 photos start on page two.

******UPDATE JUNE 20,2008****** THE FEATHER REHAB CENTER WAS NOTIFIED BY THE WISCONSIN DNR TO CEASE BANDING PELICANS ON TERRELL'S ISLAND.
