Feb 18,2009.

While at the kitchen window this large white bird comes into the front yard. At first I thought it was a snowy owl because it was so white. It landed out in a maze of branches, but I did get a slew of photos of it.

I have an educational red tail and he has been calling for the past week, I believe he might have called in this beautiful creature. I have never seen a leucistic red tail ever in the wild. He stayed here until I had to leave for work. I did get some half way decent photos through the dirty winter windows.

Leucism is relatively unusual in birds, albinism is rare. From the 2000-2006 Project Feeder Watch participants reported fewer than 1000 leucistic birds. Given that participants report about 5.5 million birds each season, the percentage of leucistic birds being reported is very small.
