Usually we band the chicks at about 4-1/2 weeks old. These chicks still had their white stripe down their backs and were only 3-3/4 weeks old. The white stripe looks like a stick in the nest, perhaps to ward off any predator from the air. These chicks were old enough to hold a band. They were in good weight, the parents were doing a good job.
