This adult bald eagle was hit by a car south of Clintonville Wisconsin in the summer of 2006.
The release of a injured bird takes a lot of caring people.
I have listed those that helped make this possible...
Jeff Hoffman and Nancy Wieneke from the Clintonville Tribune-Gazette Newspaper for the great coverage and select photos.
Todd Wipperman for the capture, transporting and release of the bird.
My good friends Don Baumgartner for always being here to help not just with an eagle,Tammie Schmidt for her camera work, Barb Jeffers for helping to band the birds, Ginny Halverson who helped get him to the vets, and even Mrs Schaefer, who's car the eagle slammed into.
Not to be left out is our generous vet from Wolf River Vet Clinic, Dr. Jim Ziegler and his staff, they always find time for wild birds.

In small pen until we could figure out what the damage was.
Ginny Perrault helped to get the bird to Dr. Jim Ziegler at Wolf River Vet Clinic.
X-rays show no broken bones, just a terrible headache.
Dr. Ziegler suggested rest and quiet and see what happens

Two weeks of rest and finally the bird is starting to get "sassy" Good sign
The better he gets the worse his attitude is. He starts to challange us when we put in food.
At three weeks he is put in a outdoor flight and starts to fly.
By the end of the third week he is really moving and needs to get "out of here".

Don Baumgartner and Barb Jeffers proceed to put his new bracelet on his right leg.
Short drive to place of accident and Don gets the bird out for Todd to toss in the air.

Some of the caring citizens
Carol Schaefer show where the dent is on her hood where the eagle took the direct hit.
Very cool! I love reading when these creatures get "feisty" and start to challenge those who care for them! Hey... we are the ones who are responsible for their plight... why should they like anyone? Great story and outcome! All those who are responsible for the eagle's healthy release should feel wonderful! All too often this is not the case. Down here in Florida, in spite of Federal protection, occasionally a bird ends up tragically injured or affected by habitat. Nice effort folks!
