Just outside the Very Christian town of Colorado Springs is a remarkable series of sandstone outcrops caused by dramatic folding and weathering of the strata, like a miniature version of the Central Australian folds which created Ayers Rock and The Olgas. Most of the names on the pictures are those given to the formations in the park, and aren't mine!
To see these formations poking out of the suburban environment is truly weird.
Great pix - I'm glad you decided to stop there on your sojourn of the Rocky Mountain State. Your take on their formation may be technically correct, but I'm thinking at least some of them were formed when a few homos made the mistake of looking back as they left the Springs (God's summer home).
