Hi I am a support worker in Brisbane Australia we are caring for Liliana Bednarowicz who with her sister Barbara Lubik arrived in the camp late 1970 and early 1980 both immigrated to Brisbane Australia. But Barbara returned to Poland leaving Liliana on her own. I am hoping that you may hole any information that will help us find her family in Poland. Liliana hasn't been well lately so contact with family is important

My family arrived to Traiskirchen on December 27th, 1982. We spent 3 nights there, and then were taken to Reichenau. I was only 8, but I remember well. Given the circumstances we were treated very well and given food and shelter. We would not even think of protesting back then, since Austria was kind enough to take us in. I don't understand why today's migrants are protesting. They too get food and shelter. I heard that they are complaining about the showers. Well, we solved it by having women and children go to take a shower first, and then the men. Stop complaining and be glad you have a roof over your head. Oh, and we also had valid passports and were not sneaking into other countries. I am thankful for Austria and the USA for taking us in, when we were desperate to escape communism.

This was the HILTON ! This pic must have been taken on a Monday.
Because they cleaned up behind there every Monday.... By Sunday it was a mess.
I remember walking behind it (even tho my parents told me not to walk behind it)
People were throwing stuff out the window all the time, TV's, Electric stoves, etc.
We would find change, and dirty pictures :)

In 1977 my family and I lived in Austria for five months, four of those we called Traiskirchen our home.Even though I missed my family left behind and my homeland so bad,I have the best memories from Austria!I felt safe and well taken care of;I met a lot of nice people who turned into true friendships...Unfortunately I lost contact with ALL of them(I was only 16 yrs old at the time);so if by any chance any of them check this site,I remember Josef(I believe he was from Hungary;he befriended me and my brother Bogdan)and Mirek, who left for Germany with his Mom and Dad few days after I left with my family for USA,and also a young, married couple,Ewa and Andrzej(?) with a baby daughter Agusia(?),who used to live in England for a while(he spent some time in the hospital in Austria;I remember babysitting Agusia when Ewa went to visit her hubby)and I think they were heading for Boston,Mass.USA...Well,my Dear parents are gone now,I miss them HORRIBLY,but I always let them know how much I love them, and how much I appreciate ALL the sacrifices They made to give me and my brother a better future,a better life! And while I'm at it;thank you Austrian government, and Traiskirchen Refugee Camp for putting a roof over our heads and food on our table when we needed it so!Sincerely,Ewa Maria Przeklasa(nee Bochenek).
