Birds -- South Texas, Feb-March 2011

From February 25 to March 2, 2011, I was in the Rio Grande Valley for a concentrated stint of bird photography. I visited two ranches, Martin Refuge (thanks to Patty Raney) and Ramirez Ranch (thanks to Roel Ramirez, and Lupita), and also Edinburg Wetlands, Williams Wildscapes in Pharr, Frontera Audubon in Weslaco, Estero Llano Grande, Santa Ana NWR, and Salineno. I added eighteen species to my list of birds photographed, and had one of the best bird photography experiences of my life! Beautiful images. My favorite is the Green Jay 1st second row. I like the bokeh and the pose. I have been wanting to make a similar trip to Texas but have no idea when or where to go. Again, some great images.

Beautiful photos and very happy that you had a wonderful trip to South Texas. I'm a Park Host at Estero Llano Grande State Park/World Birding Center. The photo of the Common Pauraque is interesting because in January the bird lost some of it's tail feathers and is showing the white.
