A trip to the Susanville area March 11-13 led by Ashok Khosla, with Vrishali Wagle and Vivek Tiwari, gave good views of Greater Sage Grouse on the lek in return for getting up very early; other photo-ops came at Dakin Unit of Honey Lake SWA (geese and swans), Eagle Lake (Townsend's Solitaire and Pinyon Jays), Red Rock Road (Juniper Titmouse), and Janesville Cemetery (flicker and bluebirds).

Hi Dennis -- Honey and Eagle Lakes form an excellent birding area near Susanville in Lassen County, highlighted by an active and observable Greater Sage Grouse lek. A number of northern California bird clubs sponsor a trip there annually, including my own Santa Clara Audubon. Bird-finding in the area is described in John Kemper's Birding Northern California, and in the older but still useful book of the same name by Jean Richmond.
