The male was resting on the water some distance from the island where the female was sitting on the nest is, then approached to exchange places with the female. She went in the water, the male climbed up to the nest, and after rearranging the eggs, sat on them. The female made several trips bringing vegetable material from nearby to the nest, which the male picked up and added to the nest. The female then swam away from the island.
