This is a great rarity in the SF Bay Area, and my first sighting of this species. It was found by Mike Rogers, on a levy around one of the outer salt ponds at the southern end of SF Bay. I hiked out in the hopes of finding it after work on the evening of Tuesday, September 7, and was lucky enough to see it and get these distant shots just as the sun was going down. Because it was a long walk I wimped out and took my 300mm lens and a monopod, instead of my 500 and a tripod.
