We stayed at our friends' house in Monterey Dunes Colony September 27-29. I prowled Salinas River State Beach in front of the house late afternoon on the 27th in the sun, and early morning and again midday on the 28th in the fog; my favorite capture was a six image sequence of a Long-billed Curlew taking off, shot at close range; also Snowy Plovers, Sanderlings en masse, and others. Morning of the 29th I visited a fogged-in Point Pinos, where I was able to photograph an array of winter birds of the rocky shore, including Surfbirds, both species of turnstones, Black Oystercatchers, and others.
