I was startled to see this bird bathing in our backyard fountain -- the first Western Tanager I'd ever seen in our yard. I grabbed my camera and fired off a series of quick shots through the not-very-clean living room window; the back yard was very shady, and I didn't have the presence of mind to raise the ISO setting to 1600, and/or take off the extender so I could shoot at f/4. As a result I was shooting handheld with a shutter speed of only 1/40s, and as a result this was the only one of my shots that didn't suffer from significant motion blur. The bird didn't wait around for me to make the necessary adjustments with a cooler head.
