This avocet (female I believe) was one of a pair inspecting a possible nest site right near the Interpretive Center parking lot at Palo Alto Baylands; what I think was the male of the pair is shown at http://www.pbase.com/image/80154213 . A pair of avocets had successfully nested, producing two young, just a week or so ago -- perhaps this is the same pair going for a second clutch.
