This one was taken at quite a distance, when I was doing a practice session on flight shots with the 20D and 500/4 plus 1.4 teleconverter on the Wimberley Sidekick. It was overcast and I didn't expect to get any postable images, but wanted to get used to capturing focus and tracking flying birds with this setup. I shifted back and forth between using all focus points, and only the center point -- generally the former allowed easier acquisition and tracking, and I don't think it was much cost in accuracy of focus, as I could only roughly track the bird -- not shoot for the eye. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this one, a heavy crop using only 25% of the image.
