This photo, showing one of the most common birds in my area, was the occasion for an embarrassing failure on my part to identify its species. This resulted from my mistakenly seeing the bird as much larger than it was, and therefore never even considering that it might be a wren. When I posted this image and asked for identification help from fellow birders, they were kind or at least polite in pointing out the obvious, though I expect there were some silent chortles. Well, this his was not the first time I've missed identifying a lone bird by seriously misjudging its size; probably won't be the last.
