I spotted this heron crouched motionless waiting for prey in a meadow near my house, as shown here. These impressive large birds are more often seen in or by water, but they also forage in grassy fields like this one. About a half-minute after I took this photo, the bird struck and captured a gopher, and I've documented the minute or so that followed in images 1 through 5 of this sequence.
