Birds of this Eurasian species of old-world warblers breed in Siberia, make rare appearances in Alaska, and are reported on average one every two years in California. This bird was identified at an out-of-the-way fennel patch near San Francisco Bay by Ron Thorn on September 24, and thereafter seen and photographed by many birders from near and far.
