The black bars across the white rump-secondaries patch, and the few remaining brown juvenal feathers on the red head, identify this as a first-cycle bird. Many of them have attained full adult plumage by their first spring, but a few retain some juvenal feathers through the summer. This bird was accompanying two adults.
