We had only the third Northern Hemisphere sighting of this albatross, formerly considered a subspecies of the Shy Albatross, on Alvaro Jaramillo's pelagic trip out of Half Moon Bay July 26, 2014. Alvaro, who is familiar with this species on pelagics off Chile, made the identification himself. The bird was very cooperative, appearing twice and landing on the water both times; the sighting was in San Mateo County waters.
