This image of a towering columnar spout emerging from behind a large ocean swell is the best I have, photographically, of our sighting of a Blue Whale. I saw the whale just emerging from the surface, and got a few unrevealing photos of bits of it above water, but missed sightings of the immense creature lunge feeding, a spectacle seen by many on our pelagic trip. (A good photo of a Blue Whale lunge feeding on the surface in Southern California waters can be seen at http://www.cascadiaresearch.org/photo%20gallery/photos-blues.htm .)
