WE WILL NEVER FORGET

EAGLE MOUNTAIN LAKE, TX

September 11, 2001 is burned into my heart. I was sitting in my boss's office that morning when we were told. He was from NYC and still had family there. He lost it and broke down. I remember walking up behind him and holding him to try to comfort him and trying not to break down myself. The office closed and I remember the silence that followed....deafening silence. No planes in the sky, no one speaking, everyone glued to the TV. I remember lighting a candle as so many of us did and placed it on the front porch. I remember crying, praying and trying to get my head around it. I will never forget that day...it is burned into my soul.

This image is in dedication and tribute to all of those who lost their lives, who died trying to save others and those that are fighting for our freedom today. May God's hand be on all and I pray that this never happens again.

I remember feeling so helpless - living outside my country while it was attacked. The absolute quiet over the skies in the US extended to the world, Cindi, and it was eerie. My eldest son was in Southern California attending college, and I wanted to close that gap like you can't believe. The gut punch came the next day, when I traveled into the main part of the city, passing the American Embassy not but 2 or 3 cars on the road, and saw the flag at half staff. I had to pull over and cry.

Speaking of remembering, I hope it's ok to tell where I was when it happened... My wife and I were planning on making an offer on our house on 9/11... we waited 2 weeks after. That morning I had gone to work like usual and my wife called me just before the second plane hit... I can remember thinking we should close our store as some of our customers went about their business like nothing happened. I couldn't believe it! I felt fear, sorrow, and was very unsure of the future. I will never forget...
