SITTING ON A TREE MISSING HER BABIES

Chisholm Park

This is the Momma duck whose duckling got eaten last Thursday by the Big Bad Heron. I went out to eat my lunch and could not find any ducklings left. There were 17 last Thursday. Today, there are none. But the two Yellow Crowned Night Herons were roosting in the trees above where the ducks like to hang out. Looks like they must have eaten them all. I'm sad and so is the Momma. She was sitting all by herself perched on that tree looking very sad. Poor Momma duckie!

Maybe not appropriate to laugh, but before me are a lot of " sad " folks !!
We have wild ducks come here to our water & breed babies, some live but many are taken.

That is a sad story. Mother nature can be cruel.

That's sad indeed. Let's hope that the well fed heron will get plenty of baby herons (harsh natural reality!)
