LUNCH FOR A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK

Tyler, TX

Saw this big guy on an old trunk of an old tree. We were all sitting out on the patio at my Mom's cottage and saw this guy flying up and down the creek bed behind her place. She thought it was the Barn Owl she has seen before but after a closer look it is a Red-Shouldered Hawk. He has a snake in his beak and proceeded to munch on it before taking off with it. Guess he doesn't like being photographed while he eats.

The fact that if flew off with its victum after eating only part of it, makes me think it might have had young in a nest somewhere. Great wildlife capture. Voted.
