AN ODE TO BIG TEX

Dallas, TX

Gone is our icon.
Big Tex burned at the State Fair.
Will miss you big guy!

Our Texas State Fair icon burned today due to an electrical issue in his head. This big guy stands near the front entrance of the Fair and greets one an all with a big "Howdy" and then goes on to tell you about the Fair. He's been around since before me and I will miss him. They say they will build him bigger and better but this guy is the true Big Tex. Now, if they make him in the likeness of John Wayne, then I'm all for it.

Sad sad day... and I know the new one will be cool, but it won't be the real Big Tex. He was about to have his 60th birthday this weekend too.

Why have all new things to be bigger. Think they should build the same. A great collage with wonderful colours. v

Sad to lose things from our childhood....this reminded me of the movie I loved when I was young...Pat Boone's version of " State Fair " I wasn't around for the '45 version though I've seen it...
At the beginning of this clip Big Tex is on the billboard

So sad for all Texans, and even us Honorary ones, I agree with Janice, bigger & better doesn't always work, need a totally new Tex perhaps on a horse inviting all to the fair! (and in the likeness of "The Duke" couldn't hurt) Great processing also!

I saw it on FB!! So he got to be bit of a hot-head then!! You can't replace by building bigger and better - that usually doesn't work

Saw on the news that Big Tex had burned but they were going to restore him. Very cool shot! Excellent processing!

We all have electricity in our head, but luckily when we short out we don't burn down. We just take a couple of Tylenol and forge on. Ole Tex will be back... in true Texas style: Bigger and better! :)
