One of my favorite places on Vancouver Island is Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. The park is a short drive from where my sister lives, and every time I visit her we go for at least one walk in the park. This is old growth forest that is laden with mosses and lichens, and in season the forest is rich in fungi. The river slashes through the park in a rocky gorge, offering many great views. I don't think that I have taken a single bird photograph here, but there is so much else to see and photograph that the birds are rather unimportant.

I think more than anything else, I find a certain peace and serenity here that refreshes the soul. Although photographs can never capture the overall beauty of the park, I hope they give the viewers at least a small sense of what it is like.
