Birding at Rancho Naturalista was superb. The bird feeding station just outside the dining area was a great start, as were the numerous hummingbird feeders. Numerous trails got one into good forest and forest edge habitat. Half day trips could be organized, for a nominal amount, to the Tuis River Valley or Catie Botanical Gardens, both within a 20 minute drive. As well, the cost of accommodations includes the full time help of their very knowledgeable birding guides.

The bird feeders were just two large, many branched, dead trees that had been proped up just outside the dining area. Bananas, and occassionally oranges, were placed on the branches, held in place by large nails that had been hammered through the branches. I tried as much as possible to photograph the birds without any evidence of human presence, but at times, when the birds were at the feeders, it was just not possible to do otherwise.
