The Beijing Ancient Observatory is a pretelescopic observatory located in Beijing, China. The revolutionary tools used within this ancient observatory were built in 1442 during the Ming Dynasty, and later amended during the Qing.As one of the oldest observatories in the world, the Beijing Ancient Observatory covers an area of 10,000 square meters. This space is chiefly occupied by a ten-meter tall brick platform bearing several bronze instruments atop its mass. The observatory itself is located on the rooftop of what is now, an astronomy museum.

Great gallery! I missed this observatory on my trips to Beijing. As far as I recall, the instruments were built for the Chinese emperor by the Jesuits in the XVI century and mounted on Beijing city walls. After the Boxer rebellion in 1900, they were looted by the Germans, but returned to China after WW1. I didn't realise that the observatory was restored and can be visited today. I must check this out on my next trip to Beijing. Thanks for sharing
