Memorial Day weekend 2003, Stan, Aaron, Mick and Shannon set forth to climb Mount Shasta which stands 14,162 ft. Spreading it out into 3 days, we started Saturday around 4 pm at Bunny Flats. Carrying our 40-50 lb packs we climbed to 50/50 Flat where we camped. The following day we climbed to base camp at Helen Lake at about 10,000 ft. That night or morning, weather girl woke up at 1 am and 2 am to poor visibility, and finally at 5 am we all set off for the summit. We successfully climbed to the top of super steep Red Banks and to the top of incredibly windy Misery Hill, 5 hours later. With poor visiblity, we could barely see the summit, so we made the smart decision to turned around just 100 ft below the summit. The whole trip experience was good enough for all. We'll be back...
