Sapa

Sapa is the most enchanting, beautiful place I have ever visted. It is in the north near the border of China. The town is quaint with many ethnic minorities (tribes) wandering around selling their goods. I went on a 3 day trek through the countryside of Sapa visiting villages, staying in local homes. I initially traveled with just my guide, but then met a nice Belgium family who was on the trek with their French-speaking guide. We stayed in the villages together which was really nice. There were children everywhere on this trek, all laughing, smiling, and playing while their parents worked in the rice fields. The rice fields are not like anything I've ever seen. They're multi-level plateaus carved out of the mountainsides. The people have very simple farming lives and are from varying ethnic minorities wearing their traditional garb. Each minority tribe is identified by their clothing and the name often describes their clothing such as Black Hmong and Red Dzao. Upon returning from my trek, I visited the colorful Bac Ha Market where people from many different ethnic minorities gathered to sell their goods and socialize.
