Geotrygon caniceps
This globally threatened species (categorised as Vulnerable) was recently split from the similiar G. leucometopia on Hispaniola (see Garrido, Kirwan & Capper, 2002, Species limits within Grey-headed Quail-dove Geotrygon caniceps and implications for the conservation of a globally threatened species. Bird Conservation International 12: 169–187), although the split is not followed by BirdLife International (2008) for want of vocal evidence (although some information concerning vocal differences was published by Kirwan & Kirkconnell 2003). Grey-headed Quail-Dove is arguably most easily found in the Zapata region; this bird was one of up to four that we observed feeding together at La Ceiba. We also had many sightings at Bermejas.
