Pale-bellied Tyrant-Manakin

Neopelma pallescens

Registro do Araguaia, Goiás, December 2008

This genus comprises a quintet (one species only recently recognised) of unprepossessing, dull ‘manakins’ of uncertain affinities (almost certainly related to the tyrant flycatchers), whose closest relatives are probably the Tyranneutes ‘manakins’, although the latter morphologically more closely resemble ‘true’ manakins in the field. Pale-bellied Tyrant-Manakin is almost endemic to Brazil, but for tiny extensions of its range into northeast Bolivia and southernmost Guyana.
