My studio...

The graffiti room at Le Chalet Hotel,
used by surfers in the summer months
and close to being a health hazard,
this was my favourite location for
all my portraits and nude work. The
last year this place became too much
of a hazard for my models and I
ceased to use it. This was my last
session here. Danger Pay would have
become a necessity to continue.

Yeah... what a mess...

ps. This is one of the very few shots
that I have of "little Jane" whose courage
and will power I admire after having beaten
an addiction to heroine. I refused to let
her model without her mum being present and
this shot was taken a year after she had been
"clean". The pose was one borrowed from a
pencil drawing on the wall to the right.
Most of my models have adopted that pose at
least once while in this room.
This is my favourite version.

sad but beautiful

The composition is great, but I feel much stronger about the B&W - did you just do a straight channel mixer in PS? The BW seems to have a vignette-like lighting which is really accentuated by your treatment and improves the shot

Kees, I saw a mono version of this the other day. Superb and unsettling location for an even more unlikely yet powerful nude subject. Original and compelling. GMV. The story of Jane adds great weight to this. Good on her.

oh my god I love it Kees...the natural light is just extraordinary and love all the detail in the shot...the pose is quite moving with her hiding her face...SOO striking...I was a little worried at first that this was your bedroom, glad to hear it wasn't! : ) vote of course

Thank you for explaining the story behind your studio. All good things come to an end, although its good to see your artistic work still lives on to the highest standards.

I can see why you used this room. It seems to have terrific light. Pleasing composition here, as well. Gary
