At the Potteries - September 23rd

A short trip out to the potteries with Richard this afternoon and, although it's Friday, we were fortunate enough to find one of the potters at work.
They will make just about anything to order, although the bulk of their production revolves around plant pots and money boxes.
These work on the principal that you can only get the money out by smashing the pot, so it's worth waiting until its full before you do so.

Here's two more shots from the visit.
The first shows examples of the pottery with the clay bed in the background, the other a batch of small pots drying in preparation for painting.

Ian, yes I think so. I'm no expert in pottery, but the finished results are lined up in front of the wheel and seem the same as the one he is currently working on. Like you, I guess he just continues with that supply of clay until it is used up.

Nice environmental portrait. So glad you included additional images of the products of his work. I too favor the look down shot. It is well composed and the color is striking.--Rene

Like the lookdown shot.

Is the potter throwing a batch of small pots, working his way through the lump of the clay on the wheel?
