Incredulity

Description:    A question mark with base formed in two alternating laminated woods.
Size:Approximately 12" H x 9" W x 6" D.
Woods:Amaranth: purple color and ¾-inch thick.
Limba: yellow color and ¾-inch thick.
Finish:"Minwax" (fast-drying) Polyurethane, Clear Satin.
Notes:The piece is intended to encourage the observer to question all paradigms, rules, diagnoses, conclusions, assertions, and dogmas. The carving was conceived and executed in such a manner that it always "opens" to the left, as question marks in two dimensions seem to do. That is, in the process of creating one in three dimensions, the carver discovered that question marks have no "front" or "back." The attention of the observer is also directed to the shape of the base, which conveys four images representing concepts that have had a dramatic impact on the thinking of the carver.
Lamination:All lamination was achieved by gluing and clamping one contact surface at a time using Titebond II® "WeatherProof" Premium Wood Glue.
