In 2009, on a wall inside this Slovak Club, I discovered a photo of my Dad's dad, my grandfather John Stanish, in the full dress uniform of The Slovak Band. He played the trombone. My Dad, Bill Stanish, passed away just today. He and all of his siblings: Margaret Furda, Ed, Dorothy Torquato, John, Len and Tom were all born in Windber. The family moved in 1944-ish to Toledo, OH. They attended mass at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Catholic Church. They lived at 205 10th Street. A neighbor's daughter was a nun at the church Sister Mary Andrea Jurick.
