Irrigated rice -- Rudy repairing water canals

Almost every household depended on subsistence farming of rice for their survival -- either in irrigated rice fields, such as this picture,
or in 'slash and burn' swidden fields. Rudy Sublemente's parents had migrated to Palawan from the overcrowded Visayan Islands
in the central Philippines where irrigated rice cultivation ('basakan') was very common.
