The 2011 Day of the Dead Commemoration in Mesilla, NM. In the main plaza community members have built altars to remember their deceased family and friends. There is an altar also to remember the thousands of women killed over the last two decades in Ciudad Juarez just across the border in Mexico and a display to commemorate the several thousand soldiers who have died in our recent wars in the Mideast, many of whom were Hispanic. Over the weekend there were music and dance performances, featuring dancers in 'skeleton' costumes for the day of the dead.
