Talk: Editing Portraits with Photoshop - April 7, 2011
Here are the instructions for what we covered today. If you have any problems following, feel free to email me (Jenna) or leave a comment below!
Duplicate layer (ctrl j)
Red eye:
Red eye tool hidden under the healing brush tool (pupil size and darkness adjustable)
Blemish removal:
Healing brush
Wrinkles: Healing brush on new layer, reduce layer opacity.
Teeth:
Select teeth: Magic wand/polygonal/magnetic wand, feather 1 px
Easy: Dodge tool. Exposure ~5-15%
Image—Adjustment—Hue/Saturation
Master: -18, +18 or to taste
Yellow: -100, +32 or to taste
Deselect (ctrl d)
Eyes:
Select whites, feather 1 px – dodge tool. Or hue/saturation: desaturate reds only/lighten overall.
Select Iris, feather 1 px, Hue/Saturation, increase saturation, change colour if desired
Dodge (midtones) inside of iris – exposure 5-10%
Burn (shadows) outside of iris – exposure 5-10%
Deselect (ctrl d)
Liquify:
Filters-liquify. Use very large brush. Push, pucker and bloat.
Use to slim down, pin ears, make eyes bigger, cheap nose jobs, botox, etc.
Skin softening:
Duplicate layer (ctrl j)
Filters-blur-Surface blur 15-15, adjust layer opacity. Bring back full details with layer mask/eraser too.
Lashes and eyebrows:
Burn tool
(Or duplicate layer, blend mode multiply, alt+layer mask, paint effect back in, change opacity as necessary)
Remove sheen: Clone tool (low opacity) OR eyedropper, paintbrush (low opacity, darken mode), blur tool over it
