Much merit to both shots, but I will vote for #2 because I see more of a story going on in that shot. This picture has me wondering about the three individuals. Location, possible interaction between them. They almost look like they are part of the furniture/plant elements, in an organized grid of some sort (floor tiles). No 1 is a very close second choice based on technical merits.

shot 1 was done with a speedlite flash on the floor behind the subject aimed at a white wall
the exposure was stopped down quite a bit to get a silhouette
converted to black & white in photoshop then added a pink photo filter

Could you give us more info on how you did this shot. The lights, purple/pink background etc...?
