Since Canada Day is only one day, I'm going to open up this challenge a bit and make it simply "Canada." Of course, Canada Day shots will also fall under this category. Shoot anything related to Canada, or what Canada/being Canadian means to you…you get the idea.
Shooting June 24-July 5. Post no later than 11:59 on July 5!
Voting July 6 and 7.
Gallery will be posted shortly.

The granite and white pines symbolize Canada for me so #7 it is.

No, the technique is not meant to affect the water, just darken the sky on the upper part. Bob

What? Not even one shot of Parliament Hill, a Loon, a Canada Goose, a Moose or Beaver? #7 gets mine. Our great natural landscapes and waterways are what set Canada apart and above the rest. Ron.

With regards to Photo 7, yes, a polarizer was used, I reaaly feel that it is an essential tool for these types of shots. The barn shot is mine as well and I can confirm that it was definitely shot in Ontario, exact location to be revealed later if anyone wishes. The signs appeared (to me anyway) to contain Canadian signs which is why I thought that it represented Canada. Personally, I enjoyed the outhouse, I am not sure whether any other countries have an outhouse which is as associated with Canada. Much has been written about outhouses in Canada and many remain quite functional, as this one is, and a great place to reflect upon life.....but perhaps that is just me.

Just a quick comment on Jenna's suggestion of a polarizer... this can be achieved in PS with the technique I showed a few weeks ago. - add an empty layer - add a gradient fill black to transparent, going from the top down to the water's edge - set the top layer to multiply mode - adjust opacity to taste. Voilà! Instant polarizer and more dramatic shot. Bob B

I vote for Number 7. Reminds me of the Tom Tompson Jack Pine in Algonquin and the surrounding landscape . That tree was burnt by campers....Paul H

My vote this week is for #12. Great moment; perfect night; one of the best ways to spend the weekend. Nice play of light and inclusion of the truck in the foreground. Looks like you just jumped out. I like the perspective on 2, but I think the focus would have been more effective on the berries. I like 7 a lot. It reminds me of one of my favourite Tom Thomson paintings. Use of a polarizer is very effective here, especially where the water meets the rock. I wouldn't mind being in that water on this HOT HOT day! The "Pleasure Barn" shot is GREAT and has really nice colour. American corporate advertising is abundant, but perhaps appropriate. (I did notice that Tim Hortons snuck in there.) Curious as to the location... Wish I had managed to shoot for this challenge! Thanks everyone! Jenna

Personally I think that #7 represent Canada a bit more than the other pictures in this challenge - I will have to go with this one... (My first impression was also, like Bob, that this photo looked like a painting that the group of 7 would of painted) L-A. Paquette - www.LAPart.ca)

Another great crop of pictures. I will vote for no. 7, as it truly represents our north, windswept pines and all. A nice reference to the Group of Seven. I did enjoy all the other entries as well. Bob B.
