Ron, your bases would look better if you rub them out with 0000 steel wool to get rid of the "cheap shine". That's a trick I learned while restoring antique furniture with my dad. We were using laquer and always used sanding sealer as a first coat, which we used to fill the pores before spraying our top coats. We lightly sanded between all coats with 600 just to level the finish. It was just a scuffing really. The final rub out was with 0000 steel wool which brings out the depth of the finish and gets rid of the hidious glare. The scrimshaw looks great! Steve
