This is a friend of mine named Brian Weed. He has been searching for and finding old mom and pop mines around the Juneau area for years now. He is in the process of writing a book on his explorations of these mines. Yesterday we went up to the Jeff and Russell adit and went over 3000 feet under ground. Old shovels and timbers are still in place. Most of these mines are close to the trails but unless you know where to look you will never see them. Brian is all about safety when exploring these mines. He purchased a very expensive air testing/alarm system that monitors for multiple bad gasses as well as o2 levels. Very exhilarating seeing these adits.
